EmpathyBCN at MRS2018

5 Aug 2018

Members of the EmpathyBCN research team recently travelled to Princeton, USA for the 17th International Biennial Congress of the MRS.

Over the course of 5 days, researchers from around the world gathered to discuss the latest developments in metastasis research.

In a session on metabolic dysregulation and metastasis, Prof Robin Anderson’s abstract BMP4 is a bona-fide breast cancer metastasis suppressor was featured. This discussed the impact of bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) on breast cancer metastasis, showing in a cohort of 535 breast cancer samples that BMP4 and SMAD7 are prognostic for improved recurrence-free survival and overall survival in breast cancer patients.

Later in the week, Prof Erik Thompson co-chaired the session Advanced imaging and new technologies in metastasis research and treatment.
