MRS 2018 Attendees at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ Members of the EmpathyBCN research team recently travelled to Princeton, USA for the 17th International Biennial Congress of the MRS. Over the course of 5 days, researchers from around the world gathered to discuss the latest developments in metastasis research.

We are sad to learn that Niki Aravanis had passed away after her battle with metastatic breast cancer in January 2013. Niki joined us last year as a BCNA Consumer Representative and generously gave her time, interest and enthusiasm to bring about better outcomes for people with breast cancer, especially metastatic breast cancer.

NBCF Infrastructure Grant Awarded

Congratulations to EMPathy BCN chief investigator Robin Anderson for being awarded the NBCF Infrastructure Grant, “NBCF Repository of Primary tumours and Metastases from Breast Cancer patients”. This will be a five year program aimed to collect tissues for multiple research projects.

Australian Museum Eureka Prize Finalists

Congratulations to EMPathy BCN chief investigator Christobel Saunders and her colleagues who are finalists in the 2013 ANSTO Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology. Christobel’s team developed the world’s smallest handheld microscope-in-a-needle to display 3D images which are detailed enough to detect cancer.

Rik has been the President of the International Metastasis Research Society for years 2010-2012.
